Bring a shopping buddy. Bringing a friend along enhances your security and situational awareness during this hectic time. Criminals are less likely to target a shopper who is not alone.
Park your car in well-lit and heavily traveled area.
When walking to the store, put your phone away and be alert. Have your self defense weapon of choice handy.
Secure your purse or leave it at home. Criminals like to target ladies’ purses, knowing they contain a lot of valuables like wallets, vehicle keys, and cell phones.
If you are shopping with children, make a plan in case you are separated from each other.
Be aware of your surroundings. If you sense something is off, trust your intuition and leave right away. Ask security to escort you to the car if needed.
Use a credit card instead of cash. When possible, limit the amount of cash that you carry as you shop as criminals love cash. And make sure your credit cards are secure with a RFID Blocking wallet. Do not buy more than you can carry. Ask a store employee to help carry your purchases to your car if needed.
Hide those purchases. Never leave your purchased items visible in your vehicle.
When walking back to the car, put your phone away and be alert. Have your keys out and ready and your self defense weapon of choice handy.
